Hidden, not Gone
Darkness, fear, and negativity are temporary. Like clouds, they come and go. Your Light, like the sun, remains constant.
Have you ever been in a place where everything seems to irritate you?
The people around you are the same as they have always been, but somehow their flaws seem impossible to ignore. The dishes left in the sink, the comment that feels insensitive, the noise, the mess, the disappointments. Little things begin to take up more and more space in your mind.
I've been in that place lately.
Every day, I found myself focusing on what was wrong with the people in my life. They didn't start the dishwasher, they were too loud, they never called back, and the list went on. I responded to their imperfections and mistakes with frustration, judgment, and blame, while overlooking all the good things they did, the kindnesses they showed, and the qualities I normally appreciated
When we're stuck in a place where we can only see the negative, it's easy to lose touch with our loving and compassionate side. In those moments, we can forget that there is something deeper within us, a light that is always there, even if we can't feel it.
Negativity can become so overwhelming that it seems to take over everything. We often try to explain it away, justify why we feel that way, or force ourselves to think or feel differently. But those approaches rarely help. Instead, they keep us trapped in fear, allowing the darkness to grow even stronger.
Instead, the most important thing we can do is offer ourselves grace.
Rather than fighting our darkness or pretending it isn't there, we can begin by simply acknowledging it. We can notice the blame, the judgment, the fear, the negative emotions, and the stories we are telling ourselves. We can admit that, at this moment, we feel stuck and cannot see a way forward.
By acknowledging our fear and Darkness we are accepting our limitations as human beings. We are not meant to live in perfect Light all the time. We are a mixture of Light and Dark, or perhaps more accurately, a blend of both, which means that there will be moments of joy and connection as well as moments of fear, worry, and negativity.
What we need to understand is that even in those moments of Darkness, our Light has not disappeared.
It is still there, shining as brightly as ever. It is simply hidden behind the clouds of fear and negativity, much like the sun is covered by storm clouds. The clouds may get in the way of seeing the sun, but it is still there, burning brightly.
When we accept this truth, something begins to shift. Instead of believing that our darkness defines us, we can recognize it as a temporary condition. We can acknowledge that our Light is hidden, not gone. This understanding opens the door to trust. We begin to trust that beneath our fear, beneath our stress, beneath our judgment and worry, our true nature remains radiant, strong, and constant.
And once we know it is still there, we can begin reconnecting with it.
Try imagining your negativity, fear, judgment and blame as dark clouds passing through the sky. Then imagine your Light as the sun, shining steadily behind them.
This simple shift in perspective can remind you of two important truths:
Darkness, fear, and negativity are temporary. Like clouds, they come and go. Your Light, like the sun, remains constant.
2. You can see and feel the Light within you, even when you are afraid and negative.
